We recently had an in-store survey to find out what advice new mums could add from their personal experiences of being "new to the job of MUM! and this is what they said!!,
1." Burp cloths- you can never have too many. It is tiresome to do laundry once or twice a day. These are not expensive. And saves a lot of time",
2. "Zip sleepers- can't have too many. From experience My child ruined her clothes (as a small baby) every time she spit up or pooped. And it is not fun at 1am to try to button or snap up a sleeper half asleep and in the dark".
3. "Diapers and wipes- I would pick some up each time you are out so you don't run out in the middle of the night. We even buy some in a size up so if she grows we aren't stuck with tiny diapers. Wipes we bought one set in the dispenser and then big packs of the refills. Even when the poops aren't as scary anymore, they come in handy for wiping food off babies face and hands".
4. "Bouncy seat or swing. This saved my life. I could get a shower or wash bottles. Speaking of bottles'.
5. "Bottles- never can have too many. Our baby only eats 5-6 times a day. But we have enough bottles for 2 days, that way if you have a rough day, you don't have to stay up after baby is asleep to wash bottles, you can wait".
6. "Pacifiers- try to get your baby to take one. I know some people don't agree, but it is easier to get baby to not freak out while you are getting ready to feed him/her. And make sure you have at least 4-5. B/c they will fall on the floor, get lost in the car or diaper bag etc".
7. "Socks- have enough you will lose some".
8. "Formula- same with the diapers, just pick up some each time you are at the store. We always have one opened and being used and 3-4 "back stocked" so if I don't get to the grocery that week, we are covered".
9. "Rompers- You can never have too many. Even if it is chilly and your baby ruins his/her clothes, you can throw on a Romper and a blanket in an emergency".
10. "Cot sheets- we have 4, never have run out".
11. "Bibs- even before solid foods, are great for drool and can double as a clothes saver from spit up or for a burp cloth.
12. Mobile for cot that is safe for babies bed- that way if you are in the shower or getting dressed and your child wakes up, they have something to look at for a few minutes while your getting ready".
Wants:
1. "Breast feeding pillow/Boppy cushion this is great for breastfeeding or fr baby to sit up in, supports their back some".
2. "Bumbo- Good for babies that are almost able to sit up, very portable and good for spoon feeding".
3. "Travel bed/playpen. Even if you aren't going to travel, a playpen is great for your baby once they get moving, gates are good too".
This is all we have had sent in for now. But remember, be prepared for the worst with a baby, you never know when they will spit up or poop everywhere!!!!
